Capanna Scaletta is one of three «Greina huts», the others are Camona da Terri and Capanna Motterascio. The Scaletta hut is situated on the Ticino side of the Passo della Greina at the end of the Valle di Blenio and offers splendid views of Piz Medel.

Due to its original and steep architectural style and location at the intersection between the Camona da Terri and the Capanna Motterascio, the Capanna Scaletta is also known as the «Triangolo della Greina» (Greina Triangle). The Camona da Terri and the Capanna Motterascio can both be reached within two hours.

There are innumerable peaks and climbing opportunities for experienced mountaineers in the area of outstanding beauty that surrounds the hut. The most popular routes are to the Piz Medel and the Piz Vial. The unique Greina Hochebene (high plateau) is within a short distance to mountain hikers, accessible by traversing the Greinapass. Ibex and eagles populate this area of unspoiled terrain. In winter, the whole region offers wonderful ski touring opportunities.

The nearest access to the hut is by bus from Olivone and Campo Blenio in the Valle di Blenio to Pian Geirètt. Alternative access is via the Greinapass from Canton Graubunden.

The Capanna Scaletta hut sleeps 40, has a kitchen and refreshment facilities and is open all the year round. A caretaker is in attendance during the summer months.

A new route, the Steinbockweg (Ibex Route), is a five-hour hike from the Capanna Bovarina (to the west of Campo Blenio in the Val di Campo) past the Sasso Lanzone and the Uffiernpass to the Capanna Scaletta. This interesting and varied route is named after the ibex that can often be seen on rock ledges along the trail.

• Valle di Blenio – also known as the «Sonnental», home to cultural-historical treasures and mountain farmers’ aromatic delicacies as well as hiking trails through unspoilt mountain terrain. The world’s highest sport climbing wall is at the Lago di Luzzone dam.
